I am borrowing the phrase from Betty White’s upcoming book for a reason. Is anyone watching the news? Reading the paper or internet news?
Maybe you don’t need to… perhaps you are already experiencing the ills that our great country is facing.
Is it really about a democratic or republican’s individual parties view and opinion? Could it possibly be collective, yet poor choices of decisions from both parties? Is either one perfect? Obviously not, or we would not be in this frightening mess that so many hardworking Americans are now facing.
Maybe it is the human ego that is getting in the way. Why we bicker our way to the third world, maybe we should take a pause and ask ourselves… is it worth it? I am not a fan of this phrase “You can win the battle and lose the war”, or maybe better stated, “You can’t see the forest from the trees”.
While we debate and point fingers yet again through the upcoming November elections, maybe we should consider the following and remember what we are voting for:
An unprecedented housing crisis
Historically low interest rates for home loans, with few qualified buyers and interest rates alone will not fix.
An impending commercial real estate crisis
An eroding middle class (the backbone of America)
Rising unemployment (again)
An aging population with Social Security funding now turning into a negative reserve position
The erosion of Pension plans, 401k employer matching plans and other retirement based savings programs that will protect and serve senior Americans
Deflation/Inflation (either will impact the economy and our future)
If you have read this far, maybe you should also think about the rising powers and there collective decision making process. While we fight to the end for the changes large and small, the emerging economies of China and India race ahead with phenomenal growth, amused at our inability to make a single conclusive decision. We languish, and so much that we have created is slipping though our fingers as we continue our in infighting.
Maybe one day (sooner than we think), when we no longer have the luxury of party based debates over policy and how to best run this great country, we may find ourselves being provided those answers by those new emerging powers who sat on the sidelines and watched us waste it all away.
Let’s work together and remember what brought us together. Do it for you, your children and your children’s children.
We are so fortunate to live in this great country. As they say… sometimes you don’t appreciate what you had until it’s gone!!
